Watching animals suffer while imprisoned is not a form of entertainment. In her article, “'The Cruelest Show on Earth' Is Coming to an End--So Why Won't the UK Government Take Action on Animal Circuses?”, People for the Ethical treatment of Animals (PETA) director, Mimi Bekhechi states, “Watching elephants stand on their heads isn't very amusing when you know that they were torn from their mothers as babies and repeatedly beaten and intimidated into doing whatever their trainers wanted, no matter how much it hurt” (Bekhechi par. 3). Bekhechi’s point is that America is being selfish when entertainment comes to animals. Zoos are not a morally sound form of entertainment due to reintroduction programs, insufficient exhibits, unsatisfactory education, killed escapees, premature death, surplus animals, and improper care.
